Today, I learned that I can work out for over an hour a day, cut my daily calories by almost half, keep careful track of my diet, drink nothing but water, and not lose a pound. But I can sure as hell gain weight after one dinner at a buffet. FML

How long have you been on your new diet/workout plan? Have you been keeping track of your measurements? You do know new muscle weighs more than lost fat, right? and if you weighed yourself the same day as your buffet, the added weight is just food in your intestines. Why do people always associate successful health plans with numbers on a scale?

How long have you been dieting? If you really haven't lost any weight perhaps you should see a doctor.

half an hour? also water doesnt help at all. that's a myth. drinking eight glasses burns 70 calories. that's half a banana. and you were probably gaining muscle. also 30 minutes isn't that much. I work out for two hours a day. try swimming it's really good for you.

What about calories vs calories out do you people not get? There is no magic pill or diet plan, it is really that simple. Eating less and drinking water can certainally cause you to lose weight, that's the whole basis of weight loss. It may not be extremely healthy to eat 1000 calories of lard a day, but I will certainally lose weight. You may have something wrong with your thyroid that can depress you metabolism thus reducing your metabolic rate, but in all likelihood you are underestimating your intake and overestimating the amount of calories you burn.

Well, you can't just lose weight by eating less food and drinking water. You have to eat healthier to lose weight.

I have read that these can be the results of some very serious medical conditions... I would consult a doctor...

youre trying to lose weight yet you were at a buffet? hold on while I call you a waaaambulance. ydi, fatty.

You're obviously another skinny bitch who's never had to lose weight before. You can't just diet 100% for months at a time. You have to have cheat meals here and there to 1) make you happy so you can actually enjoy your food for a change in order to keep your sanity and 2) to reset your metabolism. Bitch.

#81. maybe she is skinny because she actually takes care of herself and knows how to keep herself fit. Obese people tend to blame their weight gain on other things. bottom line, if your fat, it's probably your fault. If your skinny your probably doing something right. OP sounds like the type of person that goes the gym, yet barely breaks a sweat. So many people are like that and wander why they don't see results.

OP doesn't look that thin. I had a friend who could eat anything she wanted and could never gain a pound. she had asthma and her inhaler sped up her metabolism. sometimes it's a persons fault and sometimes it's not. I'd say it's societies fault for having an opinion on it in the first place. who cares if someone is fat? it's not your life, you don't need to look at them, you don't need to make comments. everyone preaches about accepting gay people (which we should) but people almost never accept fat people. even other fat people don't accept fat people because it reminds them of their own constant shame. sometimes fat people ARE born that way, and don't get to take charge of what they eat until they are adults. sometimes it's too late by then. I for one know what it's like to grow up in a poor home and be fed scraps of cheap fat food. Does that gimme an "excuse" to be fat now? nope, but I think my broken metabolism and $10 dollars a week on good can shed some light on the subject. I'm not sure why that's anyones concern but my own. either way, I voted a ydi. if you are on a diet and go to a buffet they always have salad bars. if you wanted to stray it shoulda only been a little. likely, though, you're a 135lb chick who's 5'7 and trying to get to 130lb but your body wants you with some lining. and you're still calling yourself a fattie. I feel so sorry for the world.

Buffets do not always have salad bars...my first thought when I think of a buffet is Chinese food. Pizza Hut has a buffet too, as do some KFCs. None of those places have a salad bar. And I don't really see what's so bad about eating one meal at a buffet. You don't even know how much they ate, so saying they deserve it for that is kind of dumb.

I don't have a problem with fat people in general. I have a problem with obese people that complain about it when it's their own fault, and most of all the people who are just downright lazy. Laziness and obesity often come in the same package.

I actually immediately thought Chinese buffet myself. Chinese buffets always have the steamed veggies option. The beauty of buffets are the various options you can choose from. being on a diet means you make conscious decisions about what you eat and unless she ate her weight in water chestnuts I dunno what to tell her. the only problem with her eating a meal at a buffet is her coming on FML to let everyone know she's on a diet but gained weight after a night of eating. it's like saying "TODAY, after months of trying to get pregnant with my husband, I discovered my one night stand with his friend has resulted in a child.FML" possibly an extreme example, but the point is, if you want results in life you need to remain faithful to good/safe methods that help get you where you wanna go, not betray yourself and your progress. hence the ydi. :)

Ugh, who asked for the opinion of Paris Hilton's uglier sister? Yuck. That thing in your profile picture needs a major person-over. I'd say make-over but that tongue is making me feel sick. Imagine all the STI's it'd have interacted with.... Ew. And no matter how much you try to push up those mosquito bites, that's all they'll ever remain, dearie. Have a nice day ^_^ Ps you need to take some of your own advice, I wouldn't touch you with a 10 foot pole even if there was no risk of aids.

"over an hour" ..... It annoys me when people can't read. >.<

27, water alone doesn't make you lose weight but staying fully hydrated can lower your appetite and raise your energy. Also, when OP said she was drinking ONLY water that seems to suggest the water was replacing soda, energy drinks or other overly sugary, high calorie beverages. It's an easy, healthy switch which for some people is enough for weight loss by itself.

When u work out, you need to eat more than u normally would-muscle rebuilds in between ur workouts- and in order to rebuild you must have nutrients! You have fallen prey to one of the many myths that abound about weight loss. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy of Body For Life, read it, and follow his advice- it's the best out there to give you the basics of how to lose weight!

I totally agree, and u shouldnt excerise so much every day, ur muscles need to recover

Not only is it bad to workout so often, but for that long. An hour should be as far as you go.

this is exactly what I was going to say. if you want to lose weight you can not cut calories. eat more and work out super hard. high cardio and high rep count. also eating more doesn't mean eating junk. eat 4-6 meals a day that are healthy.

Actually you do cut calories. You just rearrange the calories you do eat so after a workout you get protein. If you're a bodybuilder you eat more calories, if you're trying to lose weight you eat fewer and make sure you eat the right stuff at the right times. For weight loss, eating more calories doesn't work. I've been struggling with my weight for years and am engaged to a bodybuilder/personal trainer. This is how it works.

40 you are supposed to go to the gym everyday you workout different muscles everyday so they have time to heal. Like my schedule is Monday back/biceps (small workout) Tuesday chest/triceps (small workout) Wednesday cardio Thursday biceps/triceps (full workout) Friday cardio Saturday legs Sunday traps/shoulders. and just change it up every month or so so your muscles don't adapt.

156, I managed to put on 5kg of muscle in a month working out 3 times a week. That's chest and back- Monday. Legs and abs- Wednesday. Arms and shoulders- Friday. To be fair I was not trying to slim down like OP, in fact do the reverse. Seeing as I have to slip cardio in as much as weights I can't lift every day and fit in my other commitments, it worked for me though. Added 10kg to my bench, dealift and squat in that time, and managed to get my 3 mile time down to 25 minutes.
