Today, I met my girlfriend's parents. Her dad showed me his gun collection, and said the first rule of gun safety is never to point a gun at something you don't intend to kill. All while waving a handgun in my direction and glaring at me with barely suppressed rage. FML

Relax, no matter what he says he isn't going to shoot you. Treat his daughter with respect and he will eventually stop acting so obnoxious towards you.

It's "do not intend to shoot" and that's the second rule. The first one is "treat every weapon as if it were loaded" Call him out next time in how he can't be a successful father if he can't even get the basics of gunnery correct.

That's where you "take an interest in his hobby." I'm also a gun owner, so I'd ignore the blatant threat and talk about both of the guns we own. Let him know that he's not the only one packing.

The threat is acceptable, the lack of respect for a firearm is not. Shit like that drives me crazy.
