Today, my boyfriend asked my father for permission to marry me. My father refused, on the basis that I'm the only person in the house with a job, and if I leave he will have to start looking for work. My boyfriend won't marry me without his permission, and my lazy father won't change his mind. FML

Today, my dad is refusing to let me marry my fiancé because he said no when my dad asked for a loan of £10,000 to help clear some gambling debts. Apparently that shows my fiancé has poor family values and will be a bad father and an alcoholic husband. Impressive logical thinking there. FML

Get your own house then move there so your lazy dad HAS to get a job. THEN your dad has no control over what you do and seeing as the year coming up is a leap you YOU can propose to your boyfriend. Or you can limit what your dad gets to only enough to live with the essentials and nothing else.

OP - It's definitely time you moved out... - then tell your boyfriend to grow a pair. - And if he won't marry you without your father's permission, I'd suggest you dump him and get a boyfriend who is prepared to have a future with you.
