So long, grandpa

Today, I took home my grandpa's ashes. I then went out with my grandma, leaving my 5-year-old at home with my 12-year-old. When I got home, my beaming 5-year-old opened the door, covered in white powder. My grandmother asked where all the powder had come from. She pointed to the empty ashbox. FML

Common sense should have been used here: Keep out of reach of children.

That is so awful. Why the hell did you leave something that important where your five-year-old could get at it?? Why was she not informed that this was an absolutely hands-off item? Why was she beaming? There is so much wrong with this. Your poor, poor grandmother. :(

I feel sorry for you, but as a parent you should have known better than to leave something like that out of reach instead of leaving that job to the 12-year-old.

they're 12 not 9 or something. I think I was 12 in 7th grade. 7th graders aren't retarded. *oh and I'd be soo mad. lol FYL =]

Yes. You're a disgusting person.

I agree indeed. Out of reach for the children and in a box which ain't opened that easily.

a) lmao. b) hire a babysitter? 12 is a bit young to be entrusted with the safety of your 5 year old.. or in fact even himself :D

It is far to young!! Over here social devices would be banging at your door within the hour! That is disgusting. To whom ever is going to comment saying I turned out fine etc, GOOD FOR YOU! say a crazed killer came in that 12 year old would have no life experience or common sense to deal with that. A kidnapper or anyone could have came in. That child would have been scarred for life. Seriously think of the guilt you would feel.

YDI for leaving it in reach. I am sorry for your loss though. Everyone needs to get off your back though because in some states 12 year olds are allowed to watch children. Also at 5 years old the kid probably won't remember it anyways.

You really shouldn't leave kids that young alone at home anyways. YDI.

That's a bonafide Lord of the Flies moment.
