Today, my son waited until the night before he had a presentation on Arkansas due to tell me about it. We (meaning me, alone) stayed up until 3 am making a topographical map of the state out of plaster and drywall. At 8 a.m., a half hour after he got on the bus, I found it laying on his bed. FML

Today, my mom woke me up in the middle of the night to make me help my brother write an essay. I read what he wrote so far, gave him my suggestions, and went back to bed. She woke me up 30 mins later because he just sat and stared at his paper instead of fixing anything. Somehow that's my fault. FML

Today, after working like a caffeine-fuelled thunderstorm for 9 hours straight on an art project, my 2 friends informed me that it was due next week. I slept for 10 hours, and then went to my class without my project, thinking I lucked out in the long run. Clearly not, as it was due today. FML

Today, after a short trip out of town, I came back late at night to the yard clean, the house swept and mopped, all the laundry done, and my son asleep. I was thrilled with my boyfriend, until I found him passed out, covered in spilled beer and piss. FML

The other comments already drove home the point, so I'm just gonna say what you should do in the future WHEN something like this happens again: don't do the assignment for him, and let him go explain to his teacher why he didn't do the assignment.

Why did you help him? It's his assignment, therefore his job and responsibility. And if he's old enough to give class presentations, he's definitely old enough to know better and understand consequences.

You should’ve made HIM stay up and do it. Sounds like a ‘him’ problem. He should’ve been responsible and prepared, or got a well deserved “F” on the assignment. Kids these days will never learn because of parents like you that don’t make their kids learn from their own actions🤷🏻‍♂️
