I think what the OP is trying to get at was that while she was at work, her dad called her on her WORK phone; and well at work, it wouldnt really be right to hang up on a customer, no matter who they are, infront of your boss. I've seen some FML's before where people got fired for doing something somewhat similar to this...
^This. The type of work we're referencing here could easily be call center work. Many call centers have a no-excuses policy on interrupting or, especially, hanging up on customers. Even customers the employee is related to. If this is the case, OP, then yeah, FYL... but better sitting through it then getting fired for BS reasons.
Except his name indicates he's in retail, not a phone monkey where they usually say queue instead of line.
IF that's true, then OP was doing his job as he was instructed and has nothing to be upset over. So what if his dad was a dick for 5 minutes? It's an incredibly minor thing to cry "FML" over if it didn't result in being terminated or reprimanded. People need to sack the **** up.
Meant to be a reply to 55/56...
HIIII! IM KENNY ROGERS WITH PUNKED! (madtv ftw)
Their freaking dumb what? Your sentence is missing a noun. Unless you meant, "You're freaking dumb." Which you certainly are, if you can't even type something with some degree of accuracy between your username and a post, especially since you do not seem to realise that whilst is an actual word. It is a somewhat antiquated form of while, more commonly used in England than in the United States. Of course, a few minutes with Google instead of posting your insipid comment would have spared you from looking like a fool.
Psssst. I do believe what you meant was "your sentence is missing a verb".
No, the sentence was missing a noun. Your freaking dumb [umbrella] not Your freaking dumb [run] 10 / 10 for effort, but minus a couple billion points for actual correctness.
As the OP, I thought I'd clear this up. I was answering the work phone, which was expected of me as others were also serving. My boss was observing my phone manner and therefore I couldn't have hung up on what she thought was a customer, nor could have told them to call back later. I was not on my own phone at work, particularly as it was busy! By the way, there's nothing wrong with saying 'whilst'. :)
Ok, this makes much more sense now!
WTF. you didn't have to sit and listen to it. phones have this really cool feature called hanging up, it ends the conversation immediately.

Um. No. You didn't have to listen to the whole thing. You should have hung up. YDI
"I'm sorry dad, I'm at work, I have to go." Polite and nonoffensive. Alternatively, just hang up. Is that so hard? You're at work, you have better things to do than to listen to someone sing, I'm sure your father would understand.
