Today, my now fully vaccinated puppy went to a restaurant for the first time. They allow clean, well-behaved dogs. He threw up everywhere from excitement. FML

OP here. The restaurant allows dogs, saying its illegal when it's obviously not makes no sense. He is 5 months, more than a week after the vaccination. No way was he going anywhere the day of. He goes on walks in public (touristy) areas and has met many people and dogs. He had never thrown up before so that's why it was so surprising. He has been fine since so we just have to chalk it up to excitement. He was very well behaved but very upset that none of the food going by was for him. And no we absolutely can not leave him alone while we go out. He is like a toddler, I go pee and he has gotten into something, if there is nothing to get into he chews on furniture, if there's no furniture he chews himself and barks until he gets tired. We definitely want him social and coming out with us over all that.

Puppies are usually not the most well behaved.

"This is why we can't go to nice places!"

Please don't tell me you took him out on the same day as the pup's vaccination. If so, I'm not surprised over the vomiting. Technically, he should be getting a little rest after going through such stress. I can remember my last vaccine (an MMR when I was 14) & I ended up having a very bad reaction to it & haven't been given anything else since. That's why it's important to rest up & keep an eye on health/progress right after vaccinations. Sorry; I didn't want this to become a lecture, but from the pup's side of things, it's better to keep stress to a minimum or that's one unhappy puppy...

What the H-E-double-toothpick are you doing bringing your dog into a restaurant??? How did the restaurant even let you in with a dog? You *totally* deserve it.

it's obviously stated that the restaurant allows dogs

32. Oregon is very dog friendly, you can pretty much take them anywhere, as long as the owner of the business allows it.

Right?? Isn't that a health code violation in most states?

I don't even see why it's against health code, nobody allows their dogs ONTO the table. You can have a dog and a very clean house/apartment. A dog is not THAT dirty and i had to sit next to people in public places that smelled way worse than any animal i'd ever been close to. I bring my dog with me to restaurants and in general nobody notices him, he just sleeps under my chair.

I would not eat at a place that let dogs in, that's gross

Puppy? Try waiting until it's a fully trained adult dog :)

In all sencerity: What sorts of restaurants allow dogs? (pet dogs, not guide/companion dogs) Is this common in some places?? I ask because my little one and I are both quite seriously allergic to dogs and this wasn't even on my radar as a "thing". I've seen them at outdoor sidewalk cafes, but not indoor restaurants, proper.

It's pretty common in Central Oregon, where I live. But there are, usually, signs on the door telling you if they let dogs in or not

Thanks! It's appreciated that there are signs! Haven't been to Oregon in years, but hope to visit in the next few. Will keep an eye out :)

I get it, you were wanting to get started on socializing your pup to different surroundings & people. Accidents happen, you learned your lesson he gets quite excitable, but don't get disgruntled, try a more puppy friendly place.

Ahhh the joys of being a pet parent ❤️❤️❤️

Puppies are, ya know, children. Even when they want to behave they rarely know how. Bring your adult, fully trained dog next time, OP. YDI.

Puppies get over excited easily, especially certain breeds. Start him off slow by taking him to a friend's house where there are other dogs, or kids. He can get socialized there and not be too stimulated.
