Even in Canada they have asshole customers we need a 'how not to be an assholes class' taught in schools.

One time one of my Co-workers was fixing the shoe section. Every time she'd fix something, this little boy would undo what she had done. Then he'd do this evil giggle and she couldn't do anything because the parents would have b*tched her out. She had to go back after he left and fix the whole section again.

Hey....I didn't know you worked at my lovely place of employment! Some customers are extremely lousy human beings. Don't let the bad ones ruin it for you. Let the few and far between awesome ones make you smile :)

This happens more than people realize. I'm a supervisor at a very large discount t retailer. Honestly, the problem is that corporations have adopted the slogan; "The customer is always right" TOO much! By the end of the night our entire store is on the floor... Not the racks or shelves. This happens even when we have people recovering all day. Why? Because we ALLOW customers to destroy the store right in front of us. Corporate won't allow us to kick people out of the store for making an unnecessary mess. We can't even ask them to behave like decent human beings. Corporate is too afraid of losing a sale. I've been exactly where you've been, OP. Customers have a sense of entitlement, especially when they view the workers as in the way. Some days I just want to quit. Hang in there!!

How hard is it to just say "Excuse me, but could I please get (X amount of item), please?" if the worker is blocking what you need or want? If you're not in a hurry, you can always get the other things off your list and circle back around. The worker is usually done and you can get your shopping done. There is no need to be an asshole.

Kick her out of the store

I know how you feel, I work at a shoe store and people always knock over shelves and leave the boxes just lying around, so In short, people are assholes
