Today, after sleeping in, I finally sorted through a stack of mail I had been putting off and I found a Jury summons. Thinking it must be coming up soon, I checked the date, my appearance is scheduled for 7:45am on November 16th. Today is November 17th. FML

Today, I was told there was a bench warrant out for my arrest because a notice to appear for jury duty was sent to my old address and I never responded. I haven't lived at my old address for 2 years. FML

Today, it was my court date for a car accident I was involved in back in July. I had spent months preparing a case to prove my innocence. I was scheduled to appear at 10:00 this morning. I woke up at 10:15AM. FML

Today, I start my second week of jury duty. I was only supposed to do one week of jury duty and then go on a week of a pre-paid vacation. Instead, I’m required to go back to court this week, I’m spending my evenings doing my regular job, and I lost nearly $1,000 that I pre-paid for lodging. FML

Today, it's been several weeks since I unfortunately had to tell my grandpa that I wouldn't make it to his birthday party due to jury duty. It's now the day before, which also happens to be his birthday, and I just discovered that I was excused due to them having extras and replacing me. Too late now. FML

Today, I had to help pick a jury for trial. I had to do a roll call to make sure that everyone was present. I stood up in front of a packed courtroom and said, “Okay, I’m going to do a roll call to make sure that everyone is here and pregnant.” FML

Today, after going to bed at a decent time last night so I could get up early, I overslept. Not only that, I thought today was the day of my job interview, so I rushed to get ready and go. As I parked in the parking lot, I realized today was the day before said interview. FML

You should have checked the envelope. Important mail like that is usually marked so you don't ignore it.

You can still show up... At least in San Diego you can go up to two weeks before, or two weeks after your actual summons date... I imagine the rest of CA must be similar.

Mhhh... I have a stack of mail I've been putting off as well. (Worse still: look what I'm doing instead.) This kind of situation happens, even to functioning members of society. Best to fix it responsibly, and keep a wry smile on your lips for good humor.

Honestly it's not that bad. I've ignored two jury summons in the last 3 years and nothing. I've also had a few background checks for jobs since then and nothing comes up.

Pretty sure they only bother to do anything about it if so many people fail to show up that they don't have enough to form a jury. And since the first day is just orientation, I kinda doubt they're going to send cops after you. Just go in tomorrow and it'll be fine.
