I would say that the majority of men have poor taste in jewelry for women, even for those they know well. Look at this as an easy out not having to give her something she will hate; as someone said, exchange and pick something else. Perhaps consult her friends for better style, if you know them well enough that they won't go and tell her what's happening :P
