Today, I quit my job as a barista for one of our competitors with a couple of bucks more an hour. Two hours after I'd handed in my resignation, my boss approached me just to let me know that if I hadn't resigned, I would've been offered my own café. FML

Today, I resigned from my job in favor of a higher-paying one. After I filled out and filed the necessary papers, my boss told me that I had been nominated to replace him when he retired in a month. His job pays at least twice what I'm now making. Thanks for telling me, asshat. FML

Today, I quit my job, mainly because I didn't work enough hours and thus, earn enough money. In the past, they said there isn't any other paid work they could provide. They've now added different tasks, more money, and more hours to the position. I'm helping to find a replacement for a job I would otherwise apply to. FML

Today, I left my job, fulfilling my one month's notice after receiving a job offer from a much better-paying role. After saying goodbye to everyone, I left the building. Not two minutes later, the company who was offering the new job called to say they'd changed their minds, and there was now no longer a job on offer. FML

While I trained my replacement, the owner at the new job had time to think about how slow the season is, and he decided not to fill the position. FML

Sounds like bluff to me... if you were really getting your own cafe, they would have used that as a bargaining point in keeping you on.

So you would have gone from a barista to a café owner with nothing in between. Sounds like your boss was lying. Besides why not tell him that you were offered higher pay at another job and was wondering if he could match that pay or you could go to the other job.
