I wonder how old OP is...sounds like young enough to need to stay with grandparents, but maybe it's the grandparents that need "babysitting". If OP is like 25, the parents shouldn't have to pay for his vacations anymore, and maybe they asked the OP to stay with the grandparents as a favor. I've taken care of my parents' dog before when I was in college and they went on vacation with my younger siblings. OP could also be younger than the rest of the family, but it doesn't sound like age was an issue, it sounds like the parents didn't want to pay for OP for some reason. hard to judge these FMLs that sound like they might be leaving out a bit of key information - I mean, maybe OP can't get a passport or something, or was supposed to go apply for one, and didn't, and is complaining about cost because they don't want to take the blame
