Today, it seems I do, in fact, have an addiction to food. My employer has put on a weight loss challenge with a 1000$ prize, and on day 5 of 100 I'm already lying to the calorie counting app I installed on my phone. FML

Use this opportunity to become more aware of what you eat. You can do it, OP!

You're human, you're supposed to be addicted to food.

Knowing is the first step. There's some really good support groups out there either on person or online that can help you.

My work did something similar. However it was a mystery prize, but rumor said it was a 50" Visio tv. However on the final day, it was revealed the actual prize for the winner was just an additional vacation day.

Food addiction is common. Try Overeaters Anonymous.

I went to a meeting once. The people were insane. You're told to measure everything, count all calories, never eat out again, and to not ever eat any foods you truly enjoy, because you might overeat. I suppose if it's a true "food addiction," but generally it's emotional or psychological issues manifesting themselves as food addiction. Having formerly struggled with an eating disorder (as many of those at the meeting had too), this method was about the worst thing I could do for myself. By the way, I went to therapy to deal with the issues behind my eating, began to deal with stress/anxiety by exercising, lost 30 lbs, and am now at a perfectly healthy weight. I'm highly opposed to OA, as I didn't meet a single mentally healthy person at the meeting (several were quite underweight, and appeared to have developed anorexia, the other girl close to my size was bulimic). There are much healthier, effective ways to lose weight.
