Today, I found out my 12 year old daughter is going through a bit of an "emotional" stage. I got a call from her school saying she was sitting in the corner at recess trying to cut her wrist. With a plastic spoon. FML

It isn't really important that she used a plastic spoon. If she wants to cut her wrist (and/or even commit suicide) she has a big issue. Please, take it seriously. Even kids can get in a depression, search help to get her back out again.

That...that is silly. However, you still should get that checked out. When I was 8, I threatened to kill myself with a butter knife (thought the butcher knives would hurt too much) and as ridiculous as it was, it was just before my onset of serious depression that I still struggle with.

You better stop this bad habit soon, before she moves on to using sporks to cut herself.

Attention seeking knob. I would of passed her a knife.

You would seriously pass a real KNIFE to a 12 year old KID who is trying to cut herself just because You think she seeks attention? Holy god, I hope You never have kids or go near a kid with depression/suicide. Take that knife, and shove it up your arse. No one should do that to a kid. NO-*******-ONE!

There's actually no words I can think of that are bad enough to describe what you just said.

15- please, for the sake of the future, don't reproduce.

I hated you enough for this comment and then I saw something else: "I would OF passed her a knife." Please, dear Jesus, never reproduce. The mix of your 1) lack of compassion and 2) lack of grammar, makes me want to smack the crap out of you. OP: you never know for sure whether it's a cry for help or a cry for attention. Better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you never have children.

This is serious, even if you might not think so now. Don't take this lightly, try to help her overcome this because cutting happens to a lot teens.

That sounds like the hormones of puberty, but I am not a doctor. Docbastard you here?

thank you! finally someone with a brain on here!

Puberty does not mean trying to cut yourself. Puberty has nothing to do with it. My friend tried cutting herself in 5 grade (11-10 years old) . It's serious. A few weeks later she stole something from a store . See how big it could get. Stop your child. Therapy would be good.

This is a cry for help and/or attention and nothing more. There's a huge difference between a suicide gesture and a suicide attempt, and this is barely a gesture. It is, however, a sign that something deeper may be going on. Even 12 year olds can be depressed, so get her some help. Now.

Yes indeed. It was fairly superficial, but still deep enough to require stitches.

I'd say to get on top of it before she goes to the nuthouse. That tends to put a wrinkle in ones life.

Oh wait. For the nutcases on here "stage one behavioral rehabilitation center" nuthouse is just so much quicker to say.

It might not be "just a phase". I'm still fighting mine after 10 years. Please take good care of her.

Yeah, you said that already. That's great.

And they were calling the ops kid an attention *****.

damn plastic spoons...i always cut the corners of my mouth with them...OP, your daughter is calling out for help, even if her problems seem silly to an adult, they are not silly to her. please get her help.
