Today, I attended my first surgery as part of my program at med school. I found out that when I see someone's intestines, I vomit. Even if I'm still wearing a surgical mask. There goes the thousands of dollars I spent on college. FML

I have a fear of that happening when I train to be a vet. I can't stand blood but apparently I'll get used of it...

You could always try different medical fields if you have trouble operating on people. I could never do it, that's for sure, so good job on the effort

Me? I can't stand the smell of burning..flesh. Just gross and the surgical mask doesn't fully protect against it.

Do you think it's worth it after medical school?

You'll get used to it. It's only your first surgery. After a few more times, it won't seem as bad.

Hopefully, you get used to it so all your hard work won't have been in vain. I can't imagine my stomach would be too calm if I saw another person's innards for the first time.

in case you care, my fourth grade teacher told us that her son, who is now a surgeon, fainted at his first cadaver. I'm sure you decided what to do before this point but just FYI

If OP was watching a surgery during med school they had no option but to do so. It's part of the curriculum. It doesn't mean he/she wants to be a surgeon specifically.

It'll get better. The sight and smell of it are something you adjust to. Contaminating the OR probably got you into some trouble but you can bounce back. Just become and OB or something.
