Today, I asked my boss for a few days off next week, because my grandmother passed away yesterday and I'll need to travel to attend the funeral. His response: "She's dead, you're not. You want time off, then quit." FML

Sorry for your loss, OP. And an insensitive boss like that is a horrible one. I wish you and your family the best.

He seems like an ass. I would go above him if it's possible, if not I'd honestly quit if you can find another job. Or just leave and let him fire you, doesn't look good but at the same time he won't have an explaination for why he fired you if you only left for a family Loss. Sorry you had to deal with such an ass through all the pain if grieving.

Go ten levels above his head, report the abuse, get him fired.

That's horrible. I take it the US doesn't have laws about allowing compassionate leave then? Your boss is a serious asshole.

Your boss is a scumbag and an asshole. I guess it doesn't occur to the goniff that people want to pay their last respects. Not to mention, OP may want to be with his parents in their time of grief and any aunts and uncles who are grieving the loss of their mother. Is this guy a pod person or something?

That's an employer I'd take to court over that bs. Not cool. I'm very sorry for your loss.

You know what he doing is illegal. When there is a death in the family esp someone as close as your grandparent you have the right to take atleast 3 days off to grieve

Sorry for ur loss. Ur boss such an asshole!

I'm sorry to hear that:/ but that guy is such a bastard... will you really quit the job?

I don't know where you live, but in parts of the US it's actually illegal to not give someone bereavement. They don't have to pay you for it, but they can't deny time off.
