Today, I asked a woman where her beautiful accent was from. The woman stared at me for a while. Then her daughter told me that the reason her mother talked like that was because she had a stroke a few months ago. FML

at least you didn't make fun of it. if anything, i hope she would feel better since you called her speech beautiful. i mean i know it's still awful, but it's a little better

That does suck, but the way this is worded implies that the woman is a stranger. How were you to know she had a stroke? I don't think it's an FML or a YDI. Just kind of embarrassing.

wow i feel stupid, all this time i was pretty sure if someone had a stroke and they came out of it with a cool sounding voice and not disabled or anything, that that was a good thing. how wrong have i been

You probably just made her day. I can see how it would be embarrassing, but it's not a true FYL.

wait... you were hitting on her in front of her daughter?

Most likely, she's happy that you complimented her. She was probably just too surprised to respond at the time, especially since it happened so recently so she's likely to feel self conscious about it and might not be used to people commenting on it yet. What was awkward for you might just have made her feel a little better.

You think its an FML, but I bet she will feel a lot less self conscious about it from now on, knowing that you simply thought it was a nice accent and not a physical problem.
