Today, after weeks of complaints and an engineer call-out for our photocopier, it turns out that all faults are user errors, and it's now my job to 'idiot proof' the printer. The people I work for are all educated on a Master's / PhD level and are responsible for cancer patient treatment at a major hospital. FML

Intellectual intelligence does not always equate to wisdom.... I work in retail with a few college graduates and their lack of common sense sometimes is staggering!

How much idiot proofing can a photocopier need? Just write out instructions and tape it to the front of the machine. Do I have too much faith in the intelligence of people?

I think they should have worded this better because it's hard to tell if they mean they're too stupid to use the printer or it's a shitty printer but, instead of getting a new one, they say its user error. either way it would suck

Where exactly do you work so if I need surgery I make sure I never set foot there?

Tape over everything except for the copy/start button with tape. Put a paper saying where to put the document to be copies, and where the side to be copied should be and tape that to the wall behind the copier. My college had to do this so people stopped breaking the printers.

Don't complain about them not being able to do your job if you wouldn't be able to do their jobs.

I'm sorry, but the person physically cutting me open, taking me apart, and putting me back together REALLY should be able to figure out how a printer works.

Its amazing how some of the smartest people can struggle with basic things. Even a genius struggles with something

It doesn't matter how many degrees they have or what they are responsible for, they want nothing to do with anything Techie. It terrifies them. They refuse to learn!!

I understand the frustration all too well since I work in ED and I swear my other title is "non-certified IT worker who doesn't get paid for the stuff she fixes". It once got to the point where I was paged overhead STAT to fix a printer.

I wouldn't want anyone like this operating on ME, I don't care how many degrees they have! Remember, a thermometer is full of "degrees" and you know where they shove that!!

It's OK, I too work with providers and have come to the conclusion they're small children.
