funny, I really don't like Elf, but I LOVE stranger than fiction. (I also like quite a few of his movies, I just thought it was funny that you picked one of my favorites, and one of my least favorites) OP- Obviously, your guy isn't being completely serious. I don't know what kind of PhD he's a candidate for, but if it's anything like what I'm doing (and i'd think all PhDs require a lot of work), sometimes you just need a little break from reality... apparently he wants to take his break buying and watching movies he finds funny. I watch every episode of my favorite shows on DVD. Unless he has dropped out of his program and broken up with you in order to start stalking Will, I think you'll be okay

I think that the "Whole Wide World" scene in Stranger than Fiction more than made up for some of the lamer Will Farrell stuff that I sat through, mostly because my ex-boyfriend loves him. Overall, I kinda like him.
