Today, I found out that you can get arrested for holding up a 'free hugs' sign. FML

We have free hug days on my campus all the time and have no trouble. Its not illegal, just make sure you're not a middle aged man holding a free hugs sign at an elementary school or something!

Sadly, it's true. It's called (or the authorities will) soliciting. If you said "Can I have a hug?", that's fine, but "free hugs" implies a price.

It means the exact opposite. Anyway, what was the charge?

#73: You don't understand. #71 was not saying it's good, he/she was explaining it to you. It doesn't matter what you or they think. It's a matter of law, whether it makes sense or not, it's legally considered soliciting, and as such it's a form of prostitution.

A law needs to hold up in court. If you demonstrate the law is flawed somehow, then you win your case. What if somebody made a law saying "Breathing is soliciting". You think a judge would sentence you for breathing then? If such a law existed, the judge would rule in the favor of the defendant and challenge the law.

I did that all the time. you just can't do it in front of a elementary school you perve

I love those free hugs people :(

You live in America, didn't you know affection is illegal in your country you moron. Should have got a gun and a sign that says "will shoot you for free".

free hugs is a world-wide phenomenon that began in sydney australia - just giving free hugs to people and making their day feel a little bit better. i encourage people to search it on youtube and google.

Free hugs are awesome! A friend told me about the free hugs campaign and showed me the video that went with it - now she runs up and down the street in every St. Patrick's parade we have, carrying the sign. Three cops gave her a hug out of the hundreds of people she got a free hug from. Hm. I guess Georgia's just pretty anal about public cheer...those cops need to review the Constitution. Last I checked, no state has a law against hugging people. Keep on hugging! =D
