Vinegar is reaaaally fermented wine. White vinegar is distilled with water so its clear. And about the smell...maybe he was using a straw? I dont check the smell of my beverage first, and even so i expect taste instead. That dad's a dick.

maybe they drank it so fast they didn’t think to smell it first if they had no reason to believe it was not coke? or maybe they smelled it, didn’t drink it, and got mad that their dad would pull such a prank?
