Today, the man who has been my stepfather for six years, has forgotten how old I am. However, he remembers exactly how much my real father owes him for child support. FML

Your father doesn't owe your stepfather anything. He owes your mother. But still that sucks. put a few extra candles on his next birthday cake?

well... that sucks but you can just remind him that your not actually 12 just beacuse that's how short your skirt is for

YDI for thinking "Today, the man who has been my stepfather for six years, has forgotten how old I am," is gramatically correct :)

my real dad doesn't know how old I am (he also "forgets" about child support)

He doesn't owe the stepdad or mom anything. He owes the OP, his child. Don't feel too bad. Time flies and people forget how many years have passed. My dad can't remember my name. He's a great dad. 10 kids. Constantly mixing up our names. I still know he'd do anything for me.

Not really. Child support goes to the parent, not the child. It's for the living cost and other expenses. It's basically making up for the assumed income the second parent had that is now missing due to them moving out.

Seems to me that your stepfather has his priorities correct.

Agreed. It's not like he was there when you were born, right? He only came into your life six years ago, and while that seems like it's long enough to memorize your age, that's really not such an important detail. How much money one is owed, on the other hand, is pretty important, as is getting payments on time. And for those saying the biological dad owes OP's mom, not stepdad - once they're married, don't they share that money anyway? I could be wrong.

Not necessarily. Some people don't have joint bank accounts even after they get married. I know my fiancé wants to get one as soon as we get married but I'm still not quite sure about that.

Wow absolutely stupid. Why would your real father owe your step father child support. Think logically here. The child support goes to the paternity Mother

Not always, it goes to the parent raising the child.

Paternity mother? Now you look stupid. The word paternity itself refers to a male. The word referring to a female is maternal, but even that still doesn't make sense. Biological is the word you were looking for...

Actually, whether she's the biological mother or not is irrelevant. She could be his adopted mother, and she'd still get child support. "Paternity" was just an unnecessary word; it doesn't need to be replaced with anything.

I'm so glad to be living with both of my biological parents and I'm glad I don't have any stepparents :)
