She didn't say yes at an actual wedding, that the yes that matters, once it becomes legal then it becomes harder to get out of that relationship.

I was saying that's probably what he was thinking. Also, I never really understood the difference between engagement ring and wedding ring. Why not just have one ring?

in my experience you either do have one ring and just wear it at all times, or the wedding ring is a plain band that is worn along with the engagement ring. Engagement rings are also the ones that are more likely to be passed down as an inheritance
