When someone goes through the trouble of getting you a gift, no matter how much it cost, you smile, you say thank you, and when the person's gone you can do whatever you want with it. You don't ask how much it cost, and the only reason I can see for asking someone to return it is if it's a piece of clothing that doesn't fit. It's called being polite. No matter the reason why your mother did this, it was rude, and there is always a nice, polite way of saying things.
i concur with 24 i.e see #13
Bitch please? That's so rude! I mean, if someone bought me a gift, I would accept it, no matter how ugly it was. (:
If your mom is anything like mine, she was probably just upset you spent $30 on her when you could have used it towards something else. But....my mom would never throw something back at me, so for that, you should return it and keep the money.
#24 - I bought my mom a replica chinese horse statue made of terracotta Christmas before last. The price was about $30. She loves horses (has a few other statues). Because I spent "only" $30, does that mean I'm cheap, or spent too much? The price doesn't matter; it's showing you care and know them well enough to get them something they'd like.
Greedy heartless bitch. Even if it ain't beautiful, that's no reason to pull some shit like that.
Regardless of her reasoning for wanting to return the present, there are less bitchy ways to do it- ESPECIALLY if it's a gift from one of your children.

What a bitch shoulda threw it at her. You didn't HAVE to get her shit.
You should never ask how much a present costs; and if you are asked you should never say. It's just impolite. I feel sorry that your mother is so rude.
