You shold have been more careful, put a clause "if you win we split" or something...
Wow, it's sad enough that you're friend was shitty enough to do that, but pretty lame there's people here that think his friend was in the right. I drive my friends places all the time, and vice versa, and the only time it's really OK to ask for gas money in my opinion is if you're going there JUST for them rather than going somewhere together, and it's a long way, like, over $10 - $20. Your friend would't have asked for the $10 if you hadn't won presumably, and therefor wouldn't have got that scratch off in the first place, so he really should've halved his winnings with you. I guess the $250 is more important to him than your friendship, and at least now you know what a jerk he is.
I am with you #89... Your friend is a prick. I'd at least make him give you the cost of the ticket back. That is at least fair.
he should have atleast given back the ten dollars that you split with him. Other wises hes clearly not that good of a friend.
I'm glad so many people are mad at your friend. I wouldn't expect him to pay you anything and at most the $10 back that you initially gave him. What happens if he didn't win? Would you expect him to pay $250.00 out of it? I don't think so. Or if you won $500 to start would you expect to pay your friend $250 for gas charges? The fact of the matter is if your friend is the primary driver than you should feel obligated to help pay for the gas. He needs his license, insurance and gas to drive around. I wouldn't expect my friends to ask for gas money but I also wouldn't bitch if they did. Now with that $10 for gas money he had disposable income to buy his own ticket. He won $500.00 on it. What happens if he lost or never bought a ticket? You wouldn't be upset because you'd have nothing to gain. I'd say re-evaluate your friendship, however, I think the OP would be a douche to dissolve the friendship over this since by all accounts it's your friends money. However, if the friend and you drive equally to places then the $10 is rightfully owed to you since you're not taking any more of his gas than he is of yours when you drive. But the $500 is really a moot point. Chances were that he'd lose the money on a ticket or never buy a ticket to begin with and you OP would have no room to bitch or moan that he didn't reciprocate back with 50% of his earnings. Would be nice if he gave you some but don't expect it and unfortunately you expected to get paid for doing nothing...
damn he shulda at least give u the bucks u gave him, maybe not split cuz thats a lot but still something
You're retarded for giving him the money. He didn't make compensation arrangements prior to you winning. You won, he saw his chance, and you fell for it. You deserve this one. Get a new friend.

"friend"? **** that. he could have given you SOMETHING... $500 is enough to hand at least $50 over... unless he was in dire need for that financially.
What a douche. Somebody who throws some shitty hissyfits over ten bucks is the kind of asshole I would distance myself from immediately.
