sophiilou tells us more.
Wow, it got published! Wasn't expecting that. For starters, let me just announce NO BROKEN BONES! HALLELUJAH! Seriously is a miracle. Just a super bruised foot. Second, just to give you an idea, this particular mate is the head honcho if my barn. She thinks she is just queen of the world lol. She hates getting her girth out on, and she knows when it's out. When you hook it up on one side (so it isn't even on yet) she gets PISSED. So that day she decided to just step on me and not move, no matter what I did. I didn't clarify that I did punch her in the shoulder, but this mare, dear lord, she just does not care. That's when she shifted ALL of her weight onto that foot. I wasn't wearing my (much more protective) barn boots because I was late for my lesson and needed to hurry. So instead of grooming and tacking in my barn boots I had my tall boots on. I've actually been bitten by the same mare, for the same reason (girth), and that was probably an even more awful bruise than my foot! I seriously don't know how I get away with just bruises. And I know what you're thinking, "Why do you keep working with her when she injures you 24/7?!" Well, she's an amazing horse, just very sassy lol. Also, to whoever said they had no sympathy for me because I owned a lot of horses so hospital bills would not be a problem, you're just dumb. I could've been forever crippled, and you said you have no sympathy? I could've been forced to never compete again. And you have no sympathy? Wow. I'm not on here looking for everyone's sympathy, don't get me wrong, I actually found the whole incident hilarious. But that was EXTREMELY inconsiderate of you to say that. Thanks for all the good wishes!!!! Smushed Sophie out! :) -OP

ohhh snap! been there but didnt get hurt bad enough to go to the hospital. good luck. she probably broke your foot.
I rode horses for the Army- they are mostly riding/draft crosses (quarter horse/ shire was a popular mix). You learn to shift your foot in your boot to avoid being crushed by those clodhoppers. Also, to bend down and put your shoulder under the hollow in their leg to lift them up enough to move them. You earned your FML. I'm a big guy, over 200 lbs, and had a Percheron pick me up as I held on to his halter and just go cantering off with me dangling by his side. People who don't know horses don't get it.
Just like at construction sites, it should be mandatory to wear steel toed boots. Especially when around large animals!
your horse knows what she doing.
Let's be honest here, it's not that she's 'sassy,' as that's just giving her an excuse. There's something uncomfortable going on when you're putting the girth on, and she's trying to tell you. Horses are smart, if they don't like something, it's for a reason. If you aren't picking up on that? Then your respect for that animal is very low. Re-evaluate. Make it comfortable for her, gain her trust. What you're doing is very disrespectful. She obviously doesn't like the way you're doing something and to keep doing it that way or not find a way she's comfortable with? That's rather sickening.
@123 do you even know what you're talking about? I rode many different horses over the course of several years (no horse of my own so paying for hourly rides at several stables), and while I do love horses I can definitely say horses are as different from each other as people - sweet and calm, or feisty and nasty, or any mixture whatsoever. I'd say that many horses I met absolutely preferred to be left alone in the warm stable or out in the pasture instead of having to go out with this person on their back, and since they totally knew what it means when someone is putting the girth and saddle on they often did a lot to show their displeasure - puffing out their sides, trying to push someone against the wall, moving in a circle so you don't get a chance to do anything etc. Not because you are hurting them or doing anything wrong but just because they don't feel like having to go out and be ridden. Obviously it's not as comfortable for the horse as being all free with nothing on! But saying It's "sickening" or "disrespectful" is just not true and really stupid :/
@123 Actually, she was ridden by a lady when she was young for about a week who was putting the girth on wrong and rubbed sores on the back of her legs, causing her to be very cautious with girths. So actually, I'm not being disrespectful. I always let her sniff the girth before I buckle it on, and I make sure to run my hand wire the girth will go so she expects it. I also make it as loose as I can until I get on. Mates are sassy. That isn't an excuse, it's a fact. So before you go around saying I'm disrespectful and sickening, get the whole story. Thanks.
horses tend to push back when you push on them
Horse people are crazy, and I say that as someone who's spent most of my life on a horse farm. We should be eating horses, not riding them. Shitty goddamned animals.
Sometimes I wonder what my life would have ever been like if I've never felt the genuine unconditional love and joy horses bring to it. Then I read things like this and it reminds me of how empty and heartless I might be. You can't not love something that loves you so unconditionally. I feel sorry for you that you've never felt the level of love and happiness I'm able to feel because of horses.
See, this is why I think horse people are crazy. It's like a religious experience for you guys. I've heard so many people (mostly women, which I know makes me "that guy") say something along those lines. People claiming that the love they have between them and their horses is somehow "pure" and "unconditional". Love that's unique. That they don't get from humans. Feel sorry for me, please! Just as long as you stay away from me.
My first riding experience was on a red chestnut thoroughbred horse named Bubba. As I dismounted, he decided to step on my foot and bruised it. Horses are wonderful creatures, but can be assholes. I am glad your foot is ok OP
Was it an Arabian I feel like she's an Arabian lol
been there sweety got two plates in my foot for that one...they got some attitude lol
Yikes I once read that a person can die if there foot gets stomped on hard enough it can shatter all the bones in the foot. Glad you're okay
