Today, I received a letter in the mail stating that I had won a trip to Cancun, Mexico. It looked like a scam so I threw it away. I later found out that it was a birthday present from my cousin and the envelope also contained a check for 5 thousand dollars to help cover some expenses. FML

I went to Cancun about 10 days ago. Really pretty place. Too bad you won't see it. Unless you dig it out of the trash.

Your cousin shouldn't have made it look like junk mail.

looks like it's time to go dumpster diving smartie

Why the hell would OP's cousin say that OP "won" a trip?

Why is this an fml? Cancel the check, have him write a new one, then go on your vacation...pretty sure you don't need the letter to go...just saying

Dumbass!!!! Ydi for not checking

I think that a lot of these FML's are made up... I have a lot of fairly well off relatives but have never had a cousin that was that exceedingly generous. Maybe a sibling, but a cousin??? Unless they were very wealthy, and then they would not mail something like that without return receipt, whereas it would have to be signed for. That way they would know that it was received. Again I think that a lot of these so called FML's are just made up.

i can believe this FML i once got something like that in the mail too. It wasnt from a family member.
