Today, I found out my boyfriend of two years cheated on me. His reason? "You were flirting with me for a whole year before us when you had a whole boyfriend at the time. How do I know you aren't a cheater?" His further reasoning was that at least if I cheated on him, he'd have a reason to stay with me. FML

Today, after suspecting that my boyfriend was cheating while I was out of town, I came across an Instagram picture of him with another girl. I found out that he told her he was single. When I confronted him in a comment, the girl’s friend replied, "He clearly likes her more than you." FML

I think, in his boorish brain, he was trying to impress to you that you are the only woman he wants; therefore none of the other women are even allowed to be pretty. A compliment (admittedly a bad one) and reassurance that you're the only one for him.

I don't think you understand what happened here. What OP's bf said was a lot different than something like answering "yes" when your gf asks if these jeans make her look fat. It's not like he f*cked up and "gave the wrong answer" so to speak, it's that the answer he gave implies that he really doesn't give a much of a crap about her and would cheat on her without a second thought if he got a chance. Being with someone who genuinely likes or wants to be faithful to you is a reasonable expectation in a relationship, not a demand for "perfection".
