Not all deaf guys are asses. Being deaf, I would be delighted at your efforts, OP.
He wasn't "trying to be cool." He was trying to do his job by helping a customer.
I guess you can be a Dick in any language...even sign language!! Hr should appreciate you trying to be accommodation!!
TRUST ME, that's not how deaf people are! I'm deaf myself, and if that thing happened to me, I'd congraulate you on learning our language, and converse you with ASL.
Also, one of the reasons why the deaf person might have treated you like that is because he's annoyed at hearing people's prejudice. We're a minority and you are majority, and we tend to try to protect our culture too much. Please don't frown upon deaf people and our culture just because one deaf person was mean. :) there's lots of deaf people who would smiled and signed back to you and be pleased that you know our language.
It's called ASL if you're signing in American Sign Language. Because, of course, there's French Sign Language, British Sign Language, Kenyan Sign Language, and many more. :) just thought that it'd be a interesting fact.
That was considerate...doesn't matter if you have a name tag or not...
What an a hole. Many people don't even know sign language he should be happy someone is making a honest effort to communicate with him!
you mean many people not know how to sign???
Who knows what his deal was that day? You were being friendly. I hope that this incident doesn't discourage you from showing kindness and consideration again in the next similar situation.
That has actually happen to me once, I know your pain.
