If the mom is a larger size, the close will automatically be shorter and tighter on her. No guaranteeing they fit that way on the OP, and even if they do, at least she clearly has the sense to know that they're not always appropriate.

Except for very "non-prestigious" public golf courses, there will be a dress code requiring collared shirts (no tees or tanks) and no jeans. If it's not public, you're probably going as someone's guest, so remind your mother of the dress code, and that she'd be offending / embarrassing your host by not wearing the proper attire.
