Sharon... ...have you seen my shoes?
I don't think some people understand that a little brown bat's (one of the more common bats) body is only about the size of a woman's thumb. That would definitely easily fit into a man's shoe.
The two things I don't understand about this post are that, one: he didn't check his shoes before putting them on (which is just common sense!), and two: why would the bat choose a shoe to sleep in, when it's on the floor, as low down as can possibly be? They like being up high; if anywhere, I'd be shocked to find a bat, perhaps in my lampshade or shower curtain. But a shoe, so low down??? I don't know..
People who live in areas known for spiders, scorpions, etc. check their shoes first.
Alright, no need to be mean. I check mine for stones, usually. Otherwise I'll put my foot in and it'll be uncomfortable and spikey. :S But yes, in Australia and other places, you may find a poisonous spider/insect/scorpion in your shoe. And I'm guessing this guy is in America, where you get Black Widows among others.
All depends on where you live. In some inner cities, and in rural areas you might find critters in your shoe, but many US suburbs are so sterile its hard to find a variety of wild life. Mainly you see pigeons, squirrels and deer, and the occasional raptor, but that's it. I think that most suburbans wouldn't think to check their shoes.
pendatik, my ferret always checks my shoes, but that's because he likes to steal and stash my gel insoles. :) My friend found a bat that had made its way from their attic to their silverware drawer two floors down. I think it was sick, though, because it died before we could get it to a sanctuary. :(
bats are ugly . you'll have nightmare after seeing it, not to mention one in your boot. i have never been able to look at a bat since 5-year old.
YDI for living in an apartment. YDI for wearing shoes. YDI for having feet.
