Today, I had a guest at my house. I stood up to shake her hand and kiss her on both cheeks, which is common in my culture. When she was kissing my cheeks, I went the opposite way from her and I ended up kissing her on the lips instead. Her eyes went big and I ran away. FML

Today, I went in for a hug with my friend, but she leaned in for a kiss on the cheek at the same time. What followed was a full-on awkward face collision where I ended up kissing her on the lips. We both stood there, staring at each other before I muttered, “Sorry, gross." She really took it personally. FML

Realising it was an awkward mistake, I pulled back even more and said, "Sorry, I thought you were my mum." Don't worry OP, I'm sure she realizes that it was just an accident. The same thing happened to me once when I was in France . . . except I was 12 and he was 50. (I was the one that went the wrong way.) Talk about awkward . . . we pretended like it didn't happen and never spoke of it again.

This is how I accidentally kissed my professor's husband. I ran into an ex-professor in public and went over to say hello. She introduced me to her husband, who is from Nicaragua. He leaned in, with the intention of kissing my cheeks, but I had no clue what he was doing, so I did some awkward hug thing and turned my head, and his lips landed right at the corner of my mouth. I said, "Okay, great to see you, bye!" and ran away. Then I had to ask my ex-professor for a letter or rec two years later, because she was my PBK nominating professor. Incredibly awkward. :/
