I don't want to be judgmental but WTF?! Who the hell does that?! With all do respect, OP, your fiancé seems like a tool. Unfortunately for you, not the sharpest tool in the shed either. I hope his mom denies the "engagement" ring. It would be absurd for his mother to accept such a gift. However, it could just run in the family. Unfortunately for you, that's the family you're marrying into! FYL indeed!

Okay, I can understand a mother feeling pushed aside when her child gets engaged. I can understand said child's guilt. But... no. No. No. No. NO. Run for your life OP, someone forgot to cut the umbilical cord.
