If you think someone is following you home, stop going home and head for the nearest police station. Seriously. Don't risk it. There's no harm in you going in, mentioning you think you're being followed and asking if there's anything you should do. Just the fact you went to the police might scare off the creeper on its own.
Why would you let him follow you? Threaten to call the police or better yet get your hairspray and light out of your purse and make a torch.
