Today, I had a 10-hour shift that started at 5 a.m. We can't leave until relief comes and we don't get paid for overtime if our relief is late. The good news is my relief came early. The bad news is he went on a smoke break and never came back. They want me to stay until we close and I'm the only cashier. FML

You must work for Walmart they tried that with me and I said "overtime or I'm leaving" they can't force you to work a second shift.

Overtime kicks in after 40 hours in a week. If you worked more than your scheduled shift, you aren't entitled to overtime until you exceed 40 hours in that week

Tell your boss to get ******. You work to get paid, they should pay for your service. Tell them to pay you for your time if not go cos you deserve better!

just so you know, legally they can not have a smoke break if they have not worked yet. They need to work a set amount of hours before they can be granted a smoke break. And, by leaving during there relief time and not coming back, they can be fired and you would automaticlly claim overtime by your boss for being forced to work later then you were supposed to due to anothers failure to take over. Oh and one more thing to add and trust me, this is very important... sucks to be you :)

Call Workers Comp. They'll get you the money you've earned.
