Today, I faced a dilemma. If I don't let the cat sleep in my bedroom, she spends all night howling at the door, waking up my 2-year-old in the process. If I do let her in, the dog gets distressed and chews the contents of the bin. If I let both of them in, I have no room to sleep. FML

Hey, OP here. For all of those who suggest drowning/bludgeoning/killing my cat, shame on you. I really hope you don't have a pet. For those of you who kindly suggested crating my dog, It's a good suggestion that I will keep in mind. My home is a two bedroom affair, I don't have a spare room to shut them in. My cat is a very nervous kitty, she was a kitten that came from a home with lots of young boys poking and prodding her and prefers the serenity and calmness I give to her. She becomes immensely stressed when I'm nowhere to be found. As for the dog, he is actually my boyfriend's dog and his is a case of boredom. Without the cat to play with during the night, he becomes mischievous and searches for trouble. No matter how well you plan, you'll never get everything and inevitably, there will be something he's shredded. Be it bin contents, washing or, once, the cat litter. Despite the numerous toys he has available. Our bed is a small double, and fitting a dog and a cat into the space barely meant to contain two adults is difficult. Adding a 2-year-old on top of that is a nightmare. For the moment, we're resigned to continue things the way they are. Your friendly OP - SweetheartSusie.

Since when are pet owners allowed room to sleep? Just lay where you want and let them settle in around you, sealing you in place like cement because you don't want to move and disrupt them.

Clearly, the only solution is to get a bigger bed.

Crating it would probably be one of your best bets. I have to crate my dog Kira who gets stressed and anxious when we aren't around, else she chews things up. Another idea is to get the dog a bed to sleep on the floor. I sleep with my littlest dog on the bed and my other two with their own dog beds, even though my bed is big enough to fit both my fiance and I, all three dogs, and my cat. It may be hard for the dog at first but it could be the easiest solution.

Crating is cruel. Your dog doesn't have enough room to turn around and if it hasn't been trained in one from a puppy, (still heartless, maybe more so) it's probably going to have some accidents since you have shut it in a small box for 8+ hours. Meanwhile, your dog is lying (because the poor thing hasn't the room to stand) in it's shit for hours on end. To all of you who will inevitably tell me to shut the **** up and stop whining, I don't know what it's like: Hell yes I do. I have a 200 lb English Mastiff, a rottweiler, a Mini Aussie, and two cats. They all sleep in my bed so OP, suck it up. It could be worse. If you can't deal will it, too bad. You knew what you were getting into when you got a dog, cat, and pregnant. While I am not criticizing your animal or human choices, I am criticizing your ability to deal with them. Shame on you. Your dog doesn't deserve to sleep alone in a small, poopy box anymore than the damn cat does.

Have you ever seen an elephant crate? Crating is in no way "cruel" especially for dogs who are mischievous. You sound like someone who feeds their Pomeranian veal 3 times a day and has a doggie mansion.

#198 You must watch too much Animal Cops. The crating is temporary in houses like mine. We have two dachshunds and a doberman. Only our dachshunds go in crates now because our doberman outgrew hers. During the school year, they are in crates until I get back (7 hours, tops) and are let outside to do their business the moment I get home. The dachshunds sleep through the day and have more than enough room to turn around. Now, there are some people who put their dogs in crates that are too small. Those people should have their animals taken away.

Crate the dog, so it doesn't chew the contents of the bin, let the cat sleep with you, (or u could crate the cat as well, but that may result in her howling). That way everyone sleeps including your two yr old.

I sleep with a 120lb mastiff pup in my bed nightly and a 15lb cat who jumps on and off my bed about ten times a night to see I the dog is up there. Unfortunately this leaves no room for my husband of 24 yrs he sleeps on the couch lol. I know your pain.

How can you let your dog sleep with you and not your husband...? It seems you may have your priorities wrong.

WTF? I would be damned if the day came where my dog was allowed to sleep in my room ever. YDI for not training your pets better. Cats are not typically clingy like that, so you must have overly spoiled him. As for your dog, it sounds like he has separation anxiety if he's destroying shit for not being with you.

Animals belong outside. Problem solved.

This was just too dumb to judge as far as fyl or ydi.

Simple thing: dogs can be trained. Cats can, too, but it's not as easy. Crate train the dog properly, and everything will work out wonderfully.

Well I get the dog taking up a lot of room but you must have a FAT cat if it takes up the rest
