Was your grandmother normally a hugging person with strangers back when she was well? If she hugged you back she might have at least recognized you as someone she could trust, even if she couldn’t remember who exactly you were. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. My grandmother had dementia as well, and the years she was deteriorating were the worst in my life. Hopefully you can find some closure when she passes.

I'm so sorry for this memory. I hope you can somehow block it out of your mind and remember better times with your gran when she was still herself. Hugs to you
