Today, I think my boyfriend of 5 years is going to propose soon. He told me he was thinking about it last year, and spoke to his parents, who said they wouldn't attend the wedding as "It's not their thing." My dad passed away in November and I don't talk to my mum, so I have no one to be excited with and share the news. FML

Today, I discovered that my boyfriend was planning on proposing to me tomorrow. I found out after receiving a couple of a dozen texts from friends and relatives bitching me out for not telling them. Apparently, my dad thought it would be appropriate to make the announcement for me on his Facebook page. FML

I don't know the issues between you and your mum, but I hope they can be resolved soon enough that you can share such a momentous occasion with her. And, even if you can't, I'm sure you have friends. To paraphrase Bobby from the tv series Supernatural "Family doesn't end in blood, girl!"
