There's a pretty good chance his insurance is covering that but I could be wrong, I don't know much about it but I think a doctor can sign off on that as a medical need according to his BMI. I would look into it and still report the missing payments.

talk to a lawyer. also if his gastric bypass is a medical necessity, there is nothing you can do about it.
