It doesn’t matter what is your gender. « You saw it coming » so you could act. If you had feelings for your best friend, you could have told him. If it’s not the case and just that you dislike this girl so much that you will like your friend less (esteem him less) for being with her, you could have told him. Unless you very clearly told him you despised her, and gave him a good reason for it, a reason reasonable enough for him to have to « choose a side » during this period where he was approaching her, he can do what he wants without disrespecting your friendship. Communication is key.
