Today, I got chickenpox. I'm 28 and having chickenpox as an adult is excruciatingly painful. When I told my boss I wasn't going to be at work today because of chickenpox he replied, "That's the worst excuse I've ever heard. Adults don't get chickenpox." He then fired me. FML

Your boss is a jerk. If you work in a corporation you should call the corporate office and complain. If you don't then you should show him the doctors note proving that you have it.

the whole adults dont get it started because as a child most people get it or they get the vaccince for them, and its deadly for an adult to have them, i dont know why all i know is its really bad and when my mom had them as an adult the told her to watch it

Smile and say wrongful dismissal suit! FMLA grants you the right to medical leave for this illness and, assuming you haven't been too stupid to see a doctor regarding an adult case of chicken pox, you have a legal record of said illness.

Unless the OP is in medical distress, any doctor or ER will tell you to STAY HOME and not seek medical help just to confirm the diagnosis, because you're risking infecting everyone if you go to the doctor when you don't really need to.

he's an ignorant douchebag. it's a well- known fact that adults CAN get chickenpox and it is far worse as an adult. I guess you could give him a doctor's note but prolly too late for that.. and I'm sorry op, even just having chicken pox when I was like 12 was awful, I can't imagine how much worse it is as an adult :(

If you have a digital camera, you could have emailed him a picture of you with the chicken pox, along with a short explanation of why you're going to file a lawsuit against his ass.
