Today, it's my birthday. With all the lockdowns and curfews, my inner introvert was looking forward to enjoying a delicious meal and a bottle or two of wine by myself. My friends had other plans, namely a surprise Zoom party. Nice thought, I'm grateful for my friends, but I hate using Zoom. It went on for three hours. FML

Today, it's my husband's and my first wedding anniversary. I came home from work hoping for at least a bouquet of flowers, only to find my husband passed out on the couch, with a few beer cans next to him. I guess I missed the party. FML

Today, some people from work I don't know very well insisted on throwing me a surprise birthday party. They took me to a gay club. I'm straight, in a committed relationship, and suffer from horrible social anxiety and hypersensitive hearing. I would literally rather have been trapped in a burning building. FML

No offense but alcohol does not solve anything. It will make things worse if you get addicted to it. Talk to your husband and get his help instead.

A moderate amount of alcohol can help with mild social anxiety without fear of addiction. Obviously, severe cases must be treated differently.

Your husband has a crush? As in, on an actual person he can have contact with and not a celebrity he'll never meet? And he's throwing her a party and roping you into it? I don't think you should have to contribute anything, but you shouldn't be burying your problems in alcohol, either. May be time to see a counselor.
