As I walked away, my first thought was that someone had played a cruel joke on me. I've had such awful relationships that I can't recognize when someone is actually being sincere. FML

Been there. I have a hard time believing anyone is sincere when they flirt with me, because when I was in school guys would pretend to hit on me as a joke. I've become conditioned to naturally assume that if a guy tells me I'm pretty, it's because he's trying to make fun of me. Then again, I've had lasting relationships, too. So there's always hope. Don't give up. :)
