That's a mistake so classic that people weaponize it by leaving their cart full of groceries at the cash when their expired coupons get refused. If you really put all of your items back where they belong, you have become the grocery's favorite customer.

It's possible they will hold your purchase in a fridge or freezer until you can come back to pay. Also, I keep one credit card hidden in my vehicle for occasions like this.
