IANAL, but I'm fairly sure that this *is* illegal in the UK, and probably in most other EU countries. If you've been made redundant, then the job has to remain closed, otherwise the job wasn't *actually* redundant. As I say, if you're within the EU, you can probably get either a wrongful dismissal case, or your old job back.

If they make you redundant from a job it is illegal for them to re-hire you for less pay. They can however legally change part of the role & the title and offer it back to you for less. **** that, would you really want to work for a company that burned you then offered you less? Time to move on!
