Today, my son called me from medical school, asking for a new phone. Why? Because he dropped it in the toilet. How? Trying to take a video of his anus while taking a dump. I pay $80,000 a year just to hear he took a dump on his phone. FML

I agree, part of being an adult is taking care of yourself. At times that might mean getting your own phone instead of crying to mommy when something like this happens. And doc, if the need is bad enough it is possible to make time for a job.

Still I assume he has a budget to take care of his daily needs. He should be paying for his own stuff out of that budget even if his parents give him that budget. How will he learn financial responsibility if you just give him everything?

Abby - no. Just, no. There is no time in medical school. This isn't university where you can arrange your classes to fit your schedule. Med school is regimented and structured, and there is no time.

Who says he was drunk? Maybe he thought it would somehow help his education, or maybe he's just a goofy guy and thought it would be funny. You don't have to be drunk to do dumb shit.
