Today, I called my mom for the first time in a few weeks, just to chat because I miss her. When she picked up, the first thing she said was, "Why are you calling? What's wrong? Do you have swine flu??" When I told her that I didn't, and I just wanted to chat, she hung up. FML

Today, I was feeling very sad and alone, so I went to see my mom. I was there for over two hours, but she was on the phone gossiping with her church hens for about an hour and 45 minutes. Then she wonders why I hardly ever visit. FML

Today, I texted my mom and had to explain to her that calling me repeatedly at 2 a.m. because you're bored and want to talk is not really a good idea. Seriously, nothing happened, she just wanted to chat because she had nothing else to do. Her response to my message? She started calling me again. FML

Today, I called my mom from Australia. I have been abroad for two months and hadn't talked to her in a long time. A few minutes into the conversation my moms stops me and says this call must cost a fortune and hangs up on me. A few bucks in more important to her then me. FML

Today, I got a call from my mom's new husband. It lasted 3 minutes and those 3 minutes were of him telling me how sad I make my mom for just existing, how jealous I make her because I'm living a life she wished she was. Turns out, she told him to call me and say that because I have her blocked. FML

Don't call her for two weeks. Then if you hear one word of abuse, interrupt and mention that you're not calling back for two more weeks if she continues. Hang up on her if she does, and follow through. Accept calls from her but hang up immediately if she abuses you, and reset the two week clock. Only violate this rule in an emergency, and you define the emergency, not her. Either she catches on and won't abuse you anymore, or she earns her loneliness. This isn't ok, OP.
