There's a pretty simple solution to this... Don't bring your phone onto the gym floor.
Its not that hard to put the phone down every once in awhile....

The treadmill doesn't burn as much calories as lifting weights does. I was watching the news, and they just said that. Stretching doesn't help either. And texting and moving is never a good idea

Here's an idea: When you're at the gym leave your phone in your locker.
That's what I've always said, boyfriends will never learn to stop texting and just shut up for awhile.
