As my boss was leaving work, he informed me that because I also go to college, the promotion was being given to another employee that I trained a month ago. This is the second time this has happened. FML

Today, I found out that a co-worker of mine that I had originally hired, trained, and mentored to work in my department for the past 4 years had just got the promotion that I had applied for. He is now my boss. FML

Today, I learned that my boss is training one the the trainees I trained to be supervisor. Everyone supports this, including me. So what's the issue? I was promised that position almost 2 years ago. Apparently, I train people well enough to promote, but I'm not good enough to be promoted myself. FML

And why would they give the promotion to the one who will be getting a better job with their college education? Delayed gratification, suffer a little now. Enjoy great rewards later. This of course assumes that your schooling is not for your position in this company. And that you’re getting a marketable skill from your education.

Every company puts time and money into employees. Every employee that leaves represents lost profits. If upon graduation you intend to stay with this employer then communicate that to your boss. Otherwise he is right to promote the employees that are committed
