Today, I discovered my new step-dad has a rule about the shower. After three minutes, he turns the water off at the source. I had to beg him to turn it back on whilst covered in shampoo suds, and the only way I could get him to give me another minute was to forfeit my phone for the week. FML

Without knowing more information, I don't really see how he's immature... I'd just say he's really extreme. Either way, it was undoubtedly inconsiderate not to inform OP of the rule beforehand. He could have very valid reasoning (perhaps he has little money and water is very expensive in that area), but regardless, he handled the situation very poorly.

this might not be the most helpful solution but if you cant get more time without giving up your phone maybe try taking more bathes, my tub fills to almost halfway in three min.if he is eco conscious that should be a fair trade off but it will also help you figure out if he is just trying to be controlling which from the looks of your fml he is

Where's the mother in all of this? Shouldn't she tell her husband that it's a family, not military personnel!? I suggest OP monitors the step-dad' shower carefully, and if he takes even 1 second more than his "3 minute shower", to turn off the water at the source as well.What's good for the goose ;)
